I’m sure I’m not the only one who was pleased to see the back of 2020 – in fact, I know listening to Heart Radio they’ve built a whole giveaway around it! This time last week I was thinking, well thank goodness we’re through that and onto a positive year in 2021, only to be put back into another lockdown three days later. So far 2021 feels oddly familiar…

Or does it? I was watching the press conference last night and for the first time it filled me with confidence that we might be nearly through all this. Now, I’ll be the first to admit that when I looked into the targets that had been set for the roll out of the vaccine, I thought they looked on the optimistic side (maybe that’s just working in sales for the past six years and always trying to lower my targets!). However, last night, in the daily briefing, listening to Brigadier Phil Prosser confidently talk through how his Army logistics experience has been called upon to help deliver the vaccine and hit those ‘optimistic’ targets, I could feel the excitement building in me. I was reminded of a quote from Michael Nolan who said, ‘Good leaders surround themselves with good people’. Now, without wanting to get into a debate about whether Boris Johnson is a good leader or not, in this instance I do feel that he has surrounded himself with good people in the guise of Brigadier Phil Prosser. Whether or not those targets are actually hit, only time will tell, but after listening to him I do feel more confident that they will be. And I’m more engaged in the plan.

In business, fortunately we don’t have to manage a country through a pandemic on a day-to-day basis – although I know sometimes it feels like it! The message is the same though, surround yourself with good people who are experts in their field. Whether you are employing them, working with them or outsourcing to them, good people bring out the good in other people. That’s why we’ve surrounded ourselves with good people who can, and do, get the job done. If you want to surround yourself with us to deliver your marketing objectives then you know where we are (no need to bring in the army in this case!).

Here’s to a great 2021 surrounded by good people!

Practice your putting…

For those of you that know me, you know I like my golf. I’ve played ever since my Dad got me into it as a kid and have loved it ever since. I was never one who took it seriously – who needs to practice a hobby, right? – but over the last couple of years I’ve found I actually really enjoy it and it helps me enjoy my rounds even more!
